Emotional Triggers- Instagram Stories
The Idea π‘
We all have people we might prefer not to see every dayβor situations where a trigger warning would be helpful before encountering certain individuals. That sparked my concept for an "Emotional Trigger Warning" feature on Instagram. Many users block, mute, or restrict others, but in shared social circles or the same city, it's often impossible to avoid them entirely. My vision imagined Instagram recognizing blocked users using facial recognition and preventing their appearance in stories.
The Design π¨
I drew inspiration from Instagram's existing "Sensitive Content" warning to maintain consistency. The design featured a blurred background with an icon indicating the story might include someone the user had blocked, restricted, or muted.

The Results π―
When I shared this concept on my story as a playful experiment, the response was overwhelming. It led to:
- Over 1,100 impressions
- More 100 profile clicks
- 40+ direct responses β the highest engagement I've ever received
What stood out was how curious users became, wondering if someone they knew had been blocked and appeared on my story (hence the profile clicks). Many were genuinely intrigued, resulting in a spike in profile interactions. It turned out to be an interesting social design experiment!
